Turn the Tables
04:25
|
|
||
Some say we don’t stand a chance
To turn those things around.
Some say these days are all shaded
The winds can’t shake the ground.
Some statements are getting silenced
Made inefficient ultrasounds.
Some standpatters graze the status quo
We’re supposed to be bound to.
Turn the tables on our waiters
The ones that keep feeding on the food
We cooked ourselves: this time no scraps.
Too much on our plate, it’s over
The ones that kept feeding on our food
Will make up for the cramps we had.
You reap what you sow
And you saw what we seek
And you know what we mean
We will reach what we’re owed
Our steep resolve is all we needed.
The youth don’t seem to savor the sauce,
They gonna turn those things around.
They gonna smash it to the ground.
They gonna make their voice resound.
I got a good feeling about the kids I meet,
We gonna burn burn burn the restaurant down.

Craving for Change
03:56

|

Count on me, I’ll be there. Always have.
I’m not sure how long I will stand this.
I missed your call,
I’m not getting younger.
Lost interest in this role.
I’m done playing here,
Never thought it was funny.
I’m not giving up.
It took me a while, can't last any longer.
I’m really going for it, no matter what the cost.
I’m not giving up.
It’s all blurry ahead, and I’m afraid because I’ve lost control.
But the sight of remorse in the rearview mirror scares me to death.

These words never meant a damn thing.
Am I just realizing?
What did I believe in?
Full mouth, empty words.
Nothing!
I finally found out.
Fronts, tricks and illusions.
I never questioned, barely thought, merely trusted.
Glitches and doubts... sleepless nights.
I don’t believe in anything.
Nothing!
My hands, my mind.
I’ve been waiting for my time, didn’t even know it.
I’ve been waiting for our time, didn’t even know it.
Our hands, our minds, our choices.

A simple text dug the context out from my memory.
A mound, a barn, a battleground,
A couple of poles: let’s score some goals.
Some kids playing football and video games all day long.
That's all we were and needed to be.
I cherish these years like gold but I could not be more glad I moved on.
You’re stuck in our childhood
You’re trapped in the same old loop
Looking for a life you already lived.
Sorry you couldn’t escape.
I’d like to take you there. a nice place to live.
Some kids playing football and video games
All day long, as we did.

Oh dammit! I lost it.
My map’s gone, so am I.
Missing steps, falling down,
Scooping up a few hints on the way up.
I was supposed to go this way. Well, I don’t remember.
I stuck to that plan for so long. What if this quest ain’t for me?
Was this map just a trap, and I the bait, all along?
Directions seemed fuzzy to me, guesswork from a late wayfarer.
This compass is no more needed,
The path can’t be expected.
Now’s time to travel thousand miles unaided.
I get it, you’re not coming,
Gave me the key to something
I need to unravel on my own.
Take this piece of paper, these old battered dial and arrow.
You get it, I'm not coming.

Take me somewhere my friend,
You know me so well.
Let’s drive all night again,
We’ll see where we’ll land.
We’ll find a cave down there
To make our fox’s lair.
Don’t mind the slope, let’s dare.
We’ll make our way I swear.
Get on the road to the mountain,
Back to the coast
Or to Berlin.
Let's set up camp now.
Plant our posts in the ground.
Get the couches in the yard
To spot our favorite satellites.
And we row through the storm,
You got me when I drowned.
To this day, we don't know
Who broke down our window.
As we crossed the borders,
The Neva and the years,
I can say I’m sure
That we can get eighteen more.

“How far are we from yours?”
It’s just a ten minute walk.
“How far apart are we now?”
I guess I’m not a clockwork.
“Don’t get attached” she said.
But I’m sorry it wasn't easy and I kinda did.
You came barefoot to my place
On a sweet October night.
To watch Gene and Debbie dance
Till the sun woke up to shine.
Some will always have Paris
Or a few hours at Shermer High.
I gather these couple of weeks
Will fade out as time goes by.
I tried not to focus on the minutiae
That made me care even more about you everyday.
“Don’t get attached” you said, I know.
But I’m sorry it wasn't easy and I kinda did.
Is there an ocean between us
Or are we ten minutes apart ?
Won’t get attached so I won’t lose
Something I never really had.

Fear on the Other Side
04:34
|
|
||
She will be fine, don't worry.
She’s gone through worse than you ever did.
Denial and abuse, the patronizing laughs.
Lame excuses do not count for much.
An endless care provider, is that how you saw her?
Some thing you could take from, who will always surrender?
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,
She will fight back and give tit for tat.
A true survivor who will always remain, long after you’re gone.
You’ll fear for your pride, fame, career and life.
So what are you gonna do?
Cover up, negociate, it’s too late.
Hit the wall, brakes are gone, you did it to yourself.
Your little bird flew away and bit you good.
What is it like on the other side?
Don't you think you got what you deserved?
Justice ain't something you ask for graciously.

You’re the worst of the worst
Don’t you talk about trust.
Can’t stand your purple face
And this paranoid fuss.
You can yell, you can point,
You can hold on your grudge.
Do go screaming at me,
Boss, I won’t be your drudge.
Rub your mug in the mud.
Nothing seems to shut you up.
“Down with all kings but King Ludd!”
Don’t step on me,
Not your dog, not your friend.
Not your sap, not your prey.
Not your toy, not your slave.
Don't you dare!

Leaving the Bar
03:27
|
|
||
I’m not the same,
You healed more woes that I could name.
We’ll follow Jake to Mount Everest
But now, let’s find a bar to rest,
And find ourselves…
You looked for me in Chile,
When I was here in Christmas city.
In my dreams we dance,
Underdressed in an empty flat in Prague
Or in a blooming room,
Wearing a wedding dress and the costume of a groom.
Life happens, no matter how scared we are.
We found each other by leaving the bar.
We’ll see our best sides in their eyes,
To the worst fears we have, we’ll wave goodbye.
